A month and a half after having my vasectomy, I completely lost the ability to have or maintain an erection. Could it be due to the vasectomy? Did something go wrong during the procedure? How common is this?
From a pure physiological perspective, there is no relationship of having had a vasectomy and losing the ability to have an erection. Nothing has changed to the primary components, that being the blood supply and the male hormone testosterone. We do see from time to time a temporary psychogenic component that can affect erections. The way you can tell that this is happening is if you still get erections during sleep or when you await to urinate. This confirms the psychogenic nature of the issue and most probably will resolve with time.

There is no reason for a vasectomy to cause impotence, unless both testicles were lost due to a catastrophic complication. I suspect psychologic or emotional issues are the problem. I would discuss it with your doctor.

There should be no physiological reason for you to have lost your erection. Most likely it is transient and should return. You may want to try Viagra or Cialis. Speak to your urologist who can definitely help this situation.
