My husband had a vasectomy 6 weeks ago and we need to take a sample in for testing. How long is a sample viable? We live 2 1/2 hours from the clinic.

We refer patients to Sperm Check for at home testing. It is convenient, cost-effective, and accurate.

Unlike the semen analysis for fertility in hoping to have a child, a post vasectomy semen analysis is only looking for the presence or absence of sperm. So the time frame is not as important and two hours or so is not an issue.

A two and a half lapse time is no problem. I always suggest the same day for any specimen to be evaluated.

It will not matter since we count non-motile or inactive sperm, so the time delay is not important. What is important is that there are 0 non-motile sperm in the specimen.
