My partner had a so-called vasectomy and his scar is located on the right side of his abdomen, almost as high as his hip. No procedures were conducted in his left side. I have not found such a procedure where a vasectomy is performed in the higher vas deferens area, and only on one side.
Can you explain what has happened to my partner? Why did the doctor cut or tie his vas deferens so high up, and why only one side? Is he still ejaculating sperm or is he sterile? We don’t understand.
The urologist making that incision would have been correcting another issue such as a communicating hydrocele, cryptorchism (descended testicle) or a hernia. Testicles having cancer are removed by this incision. It may have been that the vas was tied off in the course of one of those procedures. One would not make that incision such as that for a vasectomy alone and you would not do just one side. He most probably had another medical issue. The vas does course through that area and can be accessed by that incision. Yes, if the other side was not done, he is probably fertile. An easy way to check is with a semen analysis.
