For the past 6 months, every time I have sex there is blood in my semen? Could the vasectomy I had 3 years ago be the cause? If not, what?

For the past 6 months or so, every time I have sex there is blood in my semen. When there are several days between the days that I had sex, the bleeding gets worse. I had a vasectomy 3 years ago, could this be a related problem? If not, what could be the cause? Should I be concerned? Is there need to see my physician?

This is called hematospermia. It is a random occurrence and of no clinical consequence. It is caused by rupture of a very small blood vessel within the prostate. It is not secondary to the vasectomy. I'd recommend seeing a urologist if it occurs on an ongoing basis. Of note, if it does happen again and it is rust colored, then it is about to abate.

Unlikely. Hematospermia is most often a benign condition, usually associated with sexual abstinence and/or inflammation of the ejaculatory ducts. It should clear with increased sexual activity, but if it doesn't, see your urologist.
