Can I simply set an appointment and have the procedure completed the same morning, or is an initial appointment required?

The usual protocol is a preoperative visit to have an exam, explain the procedure, get the permit and give you pre vasectomy medications. Having said that on numerous occasions I have done as you suggested for various reasons such as the patient being out of town, a tight work schedule and if there are no other medical issues that need vetting. I will say the patients who have had the consultation in general do better, have less anxiety and certainly is better situation in terms allowing that one last period of time for the patient to consider the permanence of the procedure before proceeding.

Typically, we recommend a consultation to meet and discuss the procedure, as there are certain things that you need to prepare in advance of having a vasectomy. You need to stop any blood thinners for two weeks prior, obtain a scrotal support and arrange time off for recovery.
