I had a vasectomy 8 years ago. Should I get my sperm count checked periodically?
If you have 0 sperms after vasectomy I see no reason to do seaman analysis.

Most urologists recommend two sperm-free checks, usually beginning after there have been 25 ejaculations. After that, the chance of a vasectomy failing is 1/2000. So then, it becomes how sure do you want to be. I have had some patients tell me they recheck themselves once every 6 months. Most patients never check again after they have had 2 negative specimens.

You should have your post vasectomy semen analysis performed at 2-3 months. If no sperm are seen, then most patients will not repeat the semen analysis, but definitely can is desires. There is a very low risk of recanalization—which is when the two severed ends of the vas deferens spontaneously reconnect. If you are concerned, then contact your urologist to repeat the semen analysis.

I suggest that my patients check their sperm count after 8 weeks, or 20 ejaculations. If the count is zero, I do not recommend further testing
