Welcome to Poplar Bluff Urology

On behalf of our physician and staff, we would like to personally welcome you. Ever since our inception in 1996, we have strived to offer compassionate, personalized and state-of-the-art urological care to the people of North Alabama and surrounding areas. We work with our patients and their primary care physicians to help evaluate, recommend and treat medical conditions related to the urinary tract and male reproductive system.

We are committed to providing the most comprehensive and contemporary treatment to meet the urological needs of our patients. Dr. Chakrabarty is a leader in several areas of urology and is a national and international surgical proctor for several of these innovative procedures. Being in practice since 1980 across three continents, along with his sub-specialty training and competence, he offers a world of experience and expertise in all aspects of male, female and general pediatric urologic disorders.

If you or a loved one suffers from a urologic condition – whether it is a life-altering incontinence issue or life-threatening cancer – you can count on Poplar Bluff Urology to offer the treatment and support that you need to get better safely, quickly, effectively and with minimal morbidity.

Services Offered

We provide a complete and comprehensive urologic service for men, women, and children above 2. Our offices are well equipped with abdominal and transrectal ultrasonic units, complex urodynamic equipment testing for men and women, and minor in-office surgical procedures. This assures you of a comprehensive urological evaluation and treatment in our office.

No-scalpel Vasectomy

In the no-scalpel vasectomy, a surgical clamp is used to hold the vas deferens while a puncture incision (instead of a cut) is made with special forceps. The forceps are opened to stretch the skin, making a small hole through which the vas deferens is lifted out, cut, sutured or cauterized, and put back in place. The puncture incision does not require suturing.

Some urologists recommend the no-scalpel method because they find it is quicker and minimizes postoperative discomfort and the risk for bleeding and infection. Recently, as encouraging studies are reported, more vasectomies are being performed using this approach.

Vasectomy Reversal

Vasectomy reversal is performed by an experienced surgeon who specializes in urology. Using micro-surgical techniques, the cut ends of the vas deferens are reconnected, allowing the small tubes to carry sperm from the testicles and thus enabling sperm enriched semen to be ejaculated during orgasm.

Although this type of procedure is similar to a vasectomy, a vasectomy reversal takes more time and is a more complex surgical procedure. General or regional anesthesia often is used during the procedure, and this adds some time to the recovery period. From the time the patient arrives at the hospital or outpatient surgical center and begins to fill out the necessary paperwork, approximately 4 or 5 hours will pass before he is released.
