I'm 50 years old. My vasectomy was 24 years ago. I fathered a child just before this. I believe my vasectomy was where they cut the cords, tied & cauterized. That's the best I recall. I recall my sperm count as strong before. I'm interested to understand what is our best chance at having a child with my fiance. Thank you for the advice.
The answer to this question is fairly straightforward. If after a vasectomy you want to find out whether or not you can father a child you simply provide a semen specimen and that will be analyzed. That we will give you the answer as to what the chances are that you can achieve fatherhood

A vasectomy reversal is an option. The success rate for after twenty four years is about thirty percent. The method of the vasectomy is not important. In vitro is an option and the chances are better the younger the female, with the success rate approximately forty percent for women under 35. The expense is usually more for in vitro. Here is an interesting caveat regarding a reversal. When the vas is cut at the time of the reversal the fluid is examined. It is not unusual for someone as long out as you to have high quality fluid. If this were the case your success rate with a reversal is higher than I stated but this is not known until the time of the reversal and examination of the fluid.

It depends on how old your fiance is and what your FSH level is. If your fiance is younger than 35 and you want to have more than one child, then vasectomy reversal may be a good option for you. If your fiance is older or has issues with reproduction (such as irregular periods), sperm retrieval with IVF may be the best route.
