My doctor nicked a vein during the vasectomy procedure. What is the treatment for this?

My doctor nicked a vein during the vasectomy procedure. The right side is fine, but the left side is twice the size and hard. I had more pain on the left side during the vasectomy. The doctor said it was normal. Now, I have an infection and a little pus is coming out. I'm on antibiotics (500mg levofloxacin 1X a day). How do I treat the pain and swelling I'm having?

For the pain, the best meds are anti-inflammatories like Advil or Aleve. For the swelling, you should be off your feet as much as possible, elevate the scrotum on a tightly rolled sheet and, if you have to be up and about, use compression underwear.

Your doctor probably did not "nick" a blood vessel, rather this was likely due to the small vessels around the vas deferens leaking after the vasectomy. This can happen if you are too active too soon after the procedure.
