Can you get STD-related epididymitis after a vasectomy? If the vas defers have been cut, how do bacteria travel to the epididymis?

I have had a number of episodes of epididymitis since having my vasectomy. Everything I read says that the main cause of it is usually an STD. Mine typically resolve on their own. I also don’t have any of the urethral symptoms of an STD.

STD is a nonspecific term to include some kind of sexually transmitted disease usually of the urinary tract. However, recurrent epididymitis is common and is thought to usually come from the prostate. If prostates are looked at microscopically as men grow older both acute and chronic inflammation is usually present. Remember that this whole organ system is exposed to outside influences through the penis and upwards through the remainder of the urinary and reproductive system in men. A vasectomy does not change this.
