Recovery after surgery

Varicocele repair is an outpatient procedure, but you need to remain dormant during most of the day right after surgery-- ideally lying down or reclining at home. You can expect some mild pain and discomfort, however your doctor will prescribe painkillers. You can return to your normal routine after two days, granted they are not strenuous. Heavy lifting and other physically-demanding activities will have to wait until at least two weeks later. You also need to walk around the house to exercise your calf muscles, but at a gentle pace.
