Ira D. Sharlip, MD

 

A pioneer in microsurgical urology, Dr. Sharlip is one of the nation's most experienced surgeons in microsurgical techniques of vasectomy reversal. Since 1976, he has performed well over 2000 vasectomy reversals and other microsurgical operations for maleinfertility. He has lectured, taught and written about microsurgical technique for vasectomy reversal throughout the world.

Dr. Sharlip has extensive experience with vasectomy. Recently he was the chairman of a committee of the American Urological Association, which wrote the first comprehensive, evidence-based guideline on vasectomy. Under his guidance, the committee reviewed all English language papers on vasectomy from 1949 to 2011. From this review, the guideline establishes the best practice policies for preoperative preparation of patients for vasectomy, surgical and anesthetic techniques and postoperative management of vasectomy patients.
