Are there medication restrictions prior to the vasectomy procedure?

My husband has a bad sore throat and gets his procedure one week from tomorrow. Can he take anything?

The most common restriction are medicines that cause bleeding like aspirin, Plavix, or drugs in the Coumadin class. Specifically, the medicines generally used for a sore throat or head cold would be fine to take. If there is a drug you take and are uncertain of its affects, the pharmacist is a valuable resource in this regard.

You will need to have your husband avoid any blood thinners like aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil and Coumadin or related meds. If he is having his procedure performed under local anesthesia alone, then a sore throat should not be a problem. If he is having anesthesia, a sore throat could be an issue, as would any upper respiratory infection. I would contact the surgeon to let them know and discuss if postponing the procedure is necessary. Fever, headcold, bronchitis could all result in the need to delay the procedure.
