I had a vasectomy in Cincinnati in 1983. Could the clips used back then be dangerous for an MRI of my lumbar spine?
None of my local doctors here in Vienna, Austria would have any idea what the procedures were in Cincinnati, Ohio 34 years ago. This is why I have to consult you remotely. I'm not asking for a guarantee, just for an educated guess about which metals might have been used. Thanks for any advice on how to prepare for my MRI. I just don't want the clips to burn holes in my scrotum when they fire up the magnets!

Nowadays we use titanium clips. 1983 is a long time ago. I dont know what was used. It is unlikely to be a problem, however, one option is to ask the MRI tech if a test run is possible for a few seconds, but really this is uncharted territory. You could have the old clips excised as well, to be extra safe.
